As I can remember, Slackware uses rpm to manage installation ( packages on CD
have to have .rpm extensions). If it so, run
# rpm -i --test <name of gimp package>
if it proceeds with no errors, run
#rpm -i <name of gimp package>
and all will be ok.
(First run only test whether package can be installed)
If if complains about failed depencies, install demanded packages
