Try making 2 layers, each filled with a pattern. Then select
Layers-Add Layer
Mask. If you fill the mask with a BW gradient, it will blend
the patterns smoothly.
If you select FG to Transparent from the gradient Tool
Options, you can create
awesome effects with this method. Experiment, it's well
worth it!
