you *should* be able to view them in ascii, hex or deserialized formats.

*however*, I just found out that the parasite-editor wasn't updated to
recent changes in gtk+, so it will most probably not run anyway.

I hope that, in 1.3, some generic mechanism will be created to edit
global/image/layer/channel attributes.

. For gif and jpeg comments usually you can also try to fake save the
file, and look in save as dialog.
