You're talking about the Graphire. Yes, it works. You need either a
2.4.0pre kernel or 2.2.* with the latest USB backport. You also need
a special X driver and some special entries in your X config.

As soon as you have the kernel, I can provide you the rest of the
 details.

Maybe we should provide a FAQ for that. Simon, do you have any text

Good point, I'd not thought of that.

Interestingly, I learned patching and recompiling when I wanted to add
USB support. But boy, its not that fun. Especially when the Kernel
wouldn't compile right, time after time after time. It wasn't the USB
support either. it was odd low-level things like softirq.h errors.
Anyway I'm rambling.

Adding USB support is a bit of a challange, having done it three times
now, I could do it in my sleep. For the first timer? I'd wait (unless
you're just really adventurous like me) until kernel 2.4 is stable and
standard in your distro of choice.

Wacom USB tablets

2000-11-09 Thread COUTIER Eric

Hello everybody,

In my country (France), a supermarket sell a wacom tablet and mouse for a
nice price (i think). But, it work with USB port. Will work it in linux,
specially with gimp ?

Re: Wacom USB tablets

2000-11-09 Thread DeusExHeli0s

you have to have a latest , cutting-edge Linux-kernel (plus lots of quite
new config files) to get USB support under Linux.

its getting there, but its not very easy for an average user

 alan

I've got a Intellimouse Explorer and Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro,
both are USB. I've got Kernel 2.2.17 (but this works with .15 and .16
too, I've done it) with a 2.4 backport of USB support. Available @
http://www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/ There are instructions here
for setup. Wacom's have their own USB driver within the package. The
patch applied easily to my kernel source, and i compiled it directly in
(I prefer this to using modules in this case). The Linux USB site was
helpful too, in setting up various settings (the only real work I did
was setting up the device refrence as /dev/input/mice).

Assumably, the Wacom setup should be even easier as it has a usb driver
specifically for it, where as the mouse driver is generic.

Hope that help's, let me know if you want any more info or help.
