chopping up large web images

I am wanting to cut a large image into small pieces for the web.  I
looked through the User's Manual and found that the View|Multiselect
Command would do what I wanted, but I could not find it in Gimp 1.2. 
Where is this command or something that will have the same effect?

perlotine is one way to do it, if you want to do more of it yourself,
(which is likely) image-Image-Transforms-Guilotine, which just 
cuts the image up. doesnt do the other stuff.
