[git-users] 2 projects share a set of files, how to set this up

I have 2 projects which share a set of verilog source files. I want to keep 
these files identical in both projects. I think I need one repository which 
I will check out files for each project. Each project will also have files 
that are unique to that project. How do I set this up in git. I tried 
creating a repository for one project and then cloned that repository, but 
that left me with two different repositories, instead of one for both 
projects.
