yes, subversion does support it, but my particular repository didn't have any. This may be because of how my svn client was configured. I did see the stuff on user name mapping and was prepared to do a re0import, but looking at my svn repo, there was no author(committer) listed, so there was nothing to map. Subversion commits do have an author assotiated with them as far as I know. The problem is that Git uses another approach (better) for this and when importing a Subversion repository you have to arrange for proper mapping.
