OK. Like I said... really am not familiar with Puppet and Chef. After your
comment, I Googled up CMS and Puppet & Chef showed up (with others I didn't
recognize). In any case, I think git modules might work in this case.

The requirements for different names does not come from a previous VCS. It
comes from our particular work environment. I work on Nuclear Simulators
and we have to have 2-3 active "loads" (which are simply different VCS
Revisions)
at any given time.
