The installer for OS X is maintained in this Google Code project: https://code.google.com/p/git-osx-installer/ In this case, it seems that either they are behind with their plans to build the new artifact, or the git-scm.com is a bit too optimistic in their link graphics. I agree that this is misleading, and I think the best angle would be to open an issue for git-scm.com.
