seems to have fixed it. i'm getting some warnings about stuff already
being initialized now but i can deal with warnings since they don't seem to
be "errors".

This seems to be related to the json-pure gem under Ruby 1.9.1. You
could try to include
require "json/pure"
towards the top of data/hooks/post-receive and see if this solves it.
This will load the non-native JSON vari
