Re: [Gluster-users] Announcing Gluster release 10.1

2022-02-15 Thread Yaniv Kaul
Responding to the original ask, but in a different way - we have been
experimenting a bit with building Gluster via Containers.
We have a main branch built for EL7 @
https://github.com/gluster/Gluster-Builds/actions/runs/1847522621 - can
someone give it a spin, give some feedback if it's useful, etc.?

TIA,
Y.

They won't ever be in EPEL. Nor will they be in CentOS Stream 9 proper.

They will be in CentOS Storage SIG repos for Stream 9.

What will be in the CentOS Stream 9 Extras repo will be the
centos-release-gluster9 and centos-release-gluster10 packages. Once you
install one of those then you'll be able to install gluster easily.

And you can always install it the hard by by manually downloading from the
CentOS CBS build system at
https://cbs.centos.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=5. Packages for Stream 9
have been there for quite some time now — since September of last year.

glusterfs-10.1 (and 10.0) were built for Stream 9[1][2][3]. And are even
tagged for release.

glusterfs-9.5 was too[1][4]

Maybe what's missing are the centos-release-gluster{9,10} packages in
CentOS-Extras? Those are the convenient way to get gluster packages for
Stream 9 but it is possible to get them without the centos-release-*
packages.

I am unsure what point you are trying to get across, so let me reiterate my
ask: join the community - this is the best way to influence its direction.

BTW, it is not a specific issue with CentOS - we have a similar challenge
with 32bit platform support[1] - without active maintenance work, it breaks.

Thanks for this, but what's your point exactly? Feature updates for CentOS
7 ended in August 2020, 1.5 years ago. This did not affect the release of
8.x updates, or 9.x release and updates for CentOS 7. Dropping CentOS 7
builds from 10.x onwards seems more in line with what RedHat/IBM did to
CentOS rather than with any kind of CentOS 7 updates.

Re: [Gluster-users] Announcing Gluster release 10.1

2022-02-11 Thread Shwetha Acharya
Hi Alan,

Please refer to [1]
As per community guidelines, we will not be supporting Centos 7 GlusterFS
10 onwards.

Also thanks for letting us know about https://www.gluster.org/install/. We
will update it the earliest.

Re: [Gluster-users] Announcing Gluster release 10.1

2022-02-11 Thread Alan Orth
Hi,

I don't see the GlusterFS 10.x packages for CentOS 7. Normally they are
available from the storage SIG via a metapackage. For example, I'm
currently using centos-release-gluster9. I thought I might just need to
wait a few days, but now I am curious and thought I'd send a message to the
list to check...

Thanks,

P.S. the gluster.org website still lists gluster9 as the latest:
https://www.gluster.org/install/
