No, it's not
I am considering buying a USB-based headphone/microphone. Apparently my
microphone stopped working last night (tested on 3 other machines). My
desktop system does not have an earphone jack in the front. My sound
card is nVidia and I'm running Fedora 12. I've seen some mixed reviews.
