Alt f2 opens the unity menu in command search mode for me. Win+s enters
file search mode and win+a is applications as well which is handy.

Without a mouse and without ability to bring up Terminal and with other
keyboard combos disabled, a total show-stopper here, and I am happily back
to 10.10 and Mint 10.0 on an old laptop, all working great.

Ubuntu-Studio is a good distro to try since it has stayed with gnome and is
less fussy overall. When installing, just uncheck the "extras" such as sound,
