RE: Anyone use System 76's Pop!_OS? Opinions?

2021-08-13 Thread Kevin French
We’ve been using POP! for years at home and haven’t had any issues but, because
it’s been so long, I don’t think I can make any fair comparisons to other full
featured distros.

The ExplainingComputers guy seemed to do a good overview here
https://youtu.be/Mie3vxD4O6g starting at minute 5:40 assuming you want to skip
the installation bit.

I've been using it daily for programming and various tasks related to database
driven web applications: I really like it. It's Ubuntu-based. It's been quite a
while since I was on Ubuntu, which was my previous OS, but I much prefer the UI
of PopOS.

Just looking for some opinions rooted in actual use about what it's like
and what sort of quality-of-life improvements exist for people using it vs.
just installing upstream Ubuntu and managing that config yourself.

If you tried it and kept it, why--what did you like about it?
If you tried it and then ditched it for something else, why?

2021-08-11 Thread Chris Linstid
I briefly tried it but I was installing it on my primary machine that I use
for gaming in Windows and it doesn't support dual boot out of the box with
GRUB, you have to use an EFI selector if you want to do that or manually
set up GRUB. I haven't had time to follow up on it yet, but it looks
promising and I definitely want to give it a solid try. I ended up going
back to Ubuntu so I had something working.
