In help files, please do not mark untranslated images as translated
I am looking at https://l10n.gnome.org/module/release-notes/ and clicking that link with an icon which looks like two small windows. Many entries show: "Translated, but uses original one" though the original images contain English strings. So they are not translated. Keeping them as fuzzy would be welcome. How can translation get permissions to close "their" Gitlab issues?
It seems that sometimes translation bug reports (issues) remain open though they have been fixed by translators, simply because translators don't have permissions to close them. Random examples: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Translation/pt/-/issues/11#note_1089460 https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Translation/fi/-/issues/2#note_1061809 Does anyone know how translators could request permissions to close issues in "their" GitLab project? Or even a (semi-)automated process to hand out such permissions? I could not find this aspect covered in https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/GitLab/-/issues/341 either. Maybe this is not a common problem; still wanted to bring it up. Emails about specific language translation commits
Hi everyone, recently there have been several replies being notifications about an updated translation in a specific language. While I'm happy to see translation activity, it also makes this list a bit noisy. gnome-i18n@ has many subscribers and languages and I'm not convinced that everyone's interested in knowing about every translation improvement in every language? :) Such messages could go to dedicated mailing lists for those specific language(s), I'd guess. Alright, some thoughts (and questions) how to potentially proceed: * Define gap / which timeframe means potentially "inactive". * Contact each inactive team coordinator in an email and ask if they are still interested in translating GNOME and if they realistically have the time to do so in the close future, and point to https://wiki.gnome.org/TranslationProject/TeamCoordinatorResponsibil ities , and ask to Reply to All when replying. - This should not be single point of failure (mailbox) and single person being able to follow up though. If someone contacted an inactive coordinator, should gnome-i18n@ mailing list be in CC? * If coordinator is not interested or if there is no reply from coordinator within four weeks (?), try one more time? * If again no reply, remove coordinator in damned-lies, I guess? - How to handle that? GitLab tickets? Hope that folks who can do that in Damned Lies monitor this mailing list closely? - Contact latest active translators in Damned Lies? Language pages at https://l10n.gnome.org/languages/xyz/ have a "Team membership" section and folks have email addresses, but I have no idea how to check who has been the "last" active translators for a language, plus not sure how much emailing them would be considered spammy. Plus again, who else to CC? Spam the gnome-i18n@ mailing list? * If no replies, someone to make a public call?
