Incorrect translations of gsettings schema key's localised default value
Hi; gnome-terminal contains a gsettings schema with a value that allows localising the default: #: ../src/org.gnome.Terminal.gschema.xml.h:1 msgctxt visible-name msgid 'Unnamed' msgstr Here, the single-quotes around the string are essential, and *must* be reproduced in the translated string, since this value will be parsed as a GVariant of type s (string). However, I've found out that many translations of this (msgctxt, msgid) are using locale-specific quotes here, e.g.: ca.po:msgctxt visible-name ca.po-msgid 'Unnamed' ca.po-msgstr «Sense nom» This will *not* work as intended, since parsing will fail and thus the untranslated default value will be used (and a warning printed on console). At least the following translations are affected (but everyone else is invited to double-check theirs too): bg, ca, ca@valencia, de, es, fr, gl, hu, ko, lt, lv, nb, ne, nl, sk, sr, sr@latin, te, zh_CN, zh_HK, zh_TW Note that the same problem may also exist in other modules that use translatable default values, but I didn't check for that. Hi; I noticed that translators are committing to vte master. However, there are no planned releases from master for the forseeable future; all work is going on in the vte-0-34 branch. (And https://l10n.gnome.org/module/vte/ incorrectly lists master as 'string frozen'.) There will be a new vte release from vte-0-34 next week, so this would be a good opportunity for translators to copy their work from master to vte-0-34. Hi; I just noticed at http://l10n.gnome.org/module/vte/ that i18n is apparently using the wrong vte branches: - master is *NOT* string frozen - the vte-0-34 branch that is string-frozen and used for gnome 3.6, is missing - the vte-0-32 branch for gnome 3.4 is missing as well, but that's not so important since there'll be no more releases from it. Note for translators: it's absolutely *no use* translating vte master since there will be no releases from it; translate vte-0-34 (and vte-0-36 once it exists). Hi; I noticed that on http://l10n.gnome.org/module/vte/ the only branches listed are master, vte-0-24 and vte-0-22, missing the vte-0-26, and, critically, the vte-0-28 branch from which releases for GNOME 3.0.x will come. Can the vte-0-28 branch be added please? The vte-0-22, 0-24 and 0-26 branches will not see new releases, so it's not necessary to keep/add them there. Hi; Aisleriot has been moved from the GNOME Games repository to its own repository [git://git.gnome.org/aisleriot]; please update l10n.gnome.org. Note that this only concerns gnome-games master; the code lives on on the gnome-games gnome-3-0 branch and will continue to be released for 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 from there. Aisleriot contains message translations (directory po/, domain aisleriot) and a help manual set up using gnome-doc-utils (directory help/, doc module aisleriot). Although Aisleriot is not part of any GNOME release set, it will follow the GNOME release schedule, including string change announcement and string freeze periods, and it will have stable branches for GNOME 3.2, 3.4, etc. All existing translations have been transferred to the new repository. Don't add ChangeLog entries to ChangeLog-less modules
Hi; Absence of ChangeLog, po/ChangeLog and help/ChangeLog etc. means that the module in question does not use changelogs. (For example, this is the case for epiphany, epiphany-extensions, gucharmap, gnome-terminal, gnome-games.) However, some translators still add changelog entries to modules that do not have ChangeLog files, adding them to po/ChangeLog.pre-X-Y or ChangeLog.old etc. These files are, as their name already indicates, not to be modified further. Translators can reliably detect this situation by the existence or non-existence of po/ChangeLog, help/ChangeLog etc.; if they don't exist, don't add a changelog entry. On redundant figures in manual translations
Hi; I noticed some manual translators unnecessarily put copies of the original figures in their translations. Hi; I don't fully understand the different solutions here, but don't waste time explaining that to me, probably somebody else will understand. Could I just know, how many strings are we talking about, worst case scenario i.e. for the teams that don't have any previous translations? If we pull in just the schemas it's 2 strings; if we take the UI it's another string, for a total of 3. Times 12, with each string just varying by the number in it, 1 to 12. So only having one branch of e-e on d-l is a bit inconvenient. I guess the same issue now exists for other modules in the Gnome desktop, e.g. gedit with gedit-plugins and seahorse with seahorse-plugins ? Hi; the presence of a dummy po/ChangeLog file in modules that otherwise have a no-ChangeLog policy (e.g. epiphany, gnome-games) is necessitated by an intltool bug, http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550044 . Once that's fixed and in an intltool release, the affected modules will be able to remove po/ChangeLog completely, thus enabling you to detect this simply by the (non-)existence of that file. When there isn't a branch for a release, it's probably not the preceding branch that was used, but rather the trunk at the time of the release, is it? In such cases, I'm inclined to think that the branch we should track is more the next branch than the preceding, that is, in this situation, the gnome-2-20 branch is closer to the real gnome-2-18 version than the gnome-2-16. You can't tell without examining the trunk at that revision. E.g. it might depend on APIs that weren't in the platform for 2.18 but only for 2.20. In the case of gucharmap, examining the branches and tags in svn leads me to believe that we should use the 2-16 branch (gucharmap 1.8.x) for 2.18 too.
