It sounds like a dream! Great idea! I also second Sveinn's about multiple
files.

I would also like to suggest an option for a commiter to commit in the name
of a translator, and coordinator to also be able to add a name not
registered as a translator.

Well, that is the problem.
As I see it (just checked it also, and recommit it), all the files are
affected. The problem is there is nothing wrong, as it seems, and I have
nothing to add.

im getting a similar error, but different encoding ... »'ascii' codec can't
encode character '\u010d' in position 11: ordinal not in range(128)«.
Is this me or the system?

yes, I mean gnome-circle instead of gnome-extras, which should also include
other Circle apps, currently not in the d-l. There are quite fa few!
Regarding the POT, I think you were clear enough. Some text you use on the
web comes from the apps themselves, as you mention also that some apps do
not use d-l (for now). I can also see that in the translation on the
webpage. ;) So, there should be some effort to invite those developers to
participate. As for my – let's called it a rant – I like the idea, that the
text is used from the app's POT, but would suggest to promote this among
developers to add one string especially for the webpage to every app
translation, and mark it clearly using a comment to translators. That would
improve the quality.

There are also some other issues or missing info that I would propose to
include. For example, why is there an invitation to use Flatpack (data is
available), while there is no info, whether the app is available through
repositories as deb, rpm ... or other system for that matter. I checked
almost all apps in the Circle and a LOT of them are only as FP, which is a
shame for those of us using the standard debs.

as mentioned before (sorry, can not find the mailing), I suggest creating a
category GNOME Circle and add all of those to d-l, or these will probably
not get translated.
Looking at the strings I also noticed, that strings, taken from the Program
PO, should be clearly commented in the POT, or the translators won't know,
where those are shown.

Hello,
Lately I'm getting strange errors, that I can not make sense of. Looking at
the e.g. Sloveninan translation of evolution package in DL
https://l10n.gnome.org/vertimus/evolution/gnome-40/po/sl/ it shows an error
that it is not in UTF8.
But it is!

Is there a way to find out, if there is maybe a character there, that's
causing the problems?

at least 2 ...

   - /usr/share/locale/da/LC_MESSAGES/
   - /usr/share/locale-langpack/da/LC_MESSAGES/

and to also include .mo and .po files.

GNOME files are not the problem. I have a complete control over those, I'm
obviously looking for strings that come from other packages. I find a lot
of them in freedesktop.org, many times also in TP-Project. But searching
takes time.

There used to be a PPA for ubuntu *ubuntu-translations-**coordi**nators*
that included *ubuntu-l10n-tool*, a package that did right that, but it is
unactive for years.

I'm sure there is a way to search in e.g. .mo files on my sistem. If I find
that file, I know, where the string is.

really, I do not have an answer to that. Tried it once or twice way back,
found it cumbersome, set up internal workflow for our team, and then
decided to stick with what worked perfectly.I have no idea how it is now,
but will try it today. Is there any tutorial, so I don't reinvent the wheel?

I use commandline, not DL.

   - I know, that I can easily clone, update, commit almost all the
   packages in stable 3.36, devel 3.38 eg. evolution ... gnome-connections is
   unclonable [error 1]
   - I know I have problems with most gnome infrastructure eg. damn-lies,
   jhbuild I just did manage, something changed in last few days
   - there are some packages, that can not be cloned - contrast, fractal,
   gnome-keysign ...

As I understood, we are not allowed to mess around some of these packages
(I do not wish to battle developers, who enforce this), so I leave them
untranslated, which really is a shame. I got instructions about how to
clone it using web/command line, but it takes absolutely too much time and
I never figured it out, how to do it only through commandline.

I will start looking for a new coordinator, but I doubt I will find someone
willing soon ...

Hello,
some time ago I complained about inability to commit damned-lies package
due to wrong access rights. Ok, I can live with that, but lately I get this
error on many, many packages, especially new ones, like:

app-icon-preview, authenticator, fractal, fragments, gnome-keysign,
obfuscate, shortwave ... list goes on

Is there any special reason why not even coordinators are able to do that
the usual way? Yes, I know, there is another way to do it, but it is
cumbersome and takes a lot, lot, lot time to do it and what is more
important, each project has some specifics. For this reasons I do not push
these ...

Please advise or better, please bend at least for coordinators these rules.

this is really nice gesture, hopefully it will also encourage the
translators to make updates ...

Re: Gitlab access for translators

Hello, guys,
I'd like to reopen this thread with a perfect Subject.

Lately it seems that more and more project are put in special groups to
which translators (and coordinators) do not get git access anymore.

As I see now, I have 3 different workflows:
- some projects I can commit directly to git (for now)
- some projects I need to fork first on gitlab to then commit (which can
not necessarily be done neither completely through webUI nor in command
line)
- some projects, like release-notes, I can as it seems push only through
the translation bot, which Slovenian team doesn't use.

I guess that us coordinators really did some nasty hacks in past years ...

Can someone please elaborate, what are the plans for
translators/coordinators ...
