If you are only using one or two sets of books you can create two entries in
the Linux Mint menu for gnucash and edit the command to specifically open
one or other of the data file by supplying a full path to the command.
if you open a terminal and type gnucash --help you will get the help

So how were you trying to open the accounts file that it says it would
not allow? Accounts files (or books) are just files in exactly the
same way way that, for example, MS Word documents

Yes. We call that a "set of books". And GnuCash will let you have as
many different sets of books as you like. However, GnuCash will only keep
one set of books open at a time, so you will have to close and open them
to switch between them. (Or have multiple copies of GnuCash open
simultaneously

business account and a separate personal account with a totally separate
