Alton From your description it would appear you are using the notes field to stor a link to an external file descriptor. GnuCash has had a facility to associate a URL for an external file to a transaction (Menu-.Transaction->Manage Document Links and Transaction->Open Linked Document in V4.6).

You can achieve the ad-hoc nature of a templated transaction by setting the frequency of the scheduled transaction to 'Once'. Set up your scheduled transaction, set the frequency to 'Once', run the scheduled transactions/Since Last Run option, fill in the variables, then proceed. The next time

The only mechanism that really exists to have "templated arbitrary formulas" is to use the periodic Scheduled Transactions. It would be nice to have them created ad-hoc (ie menu item Create Transaction from Template which pops up a list of available templates) instead of periodically... On Sat,
