works in GNC but as a user of yfinance and/or yahooquery modules in
python, this sounds familiar.

You don't mention what version of Gnucash you are using, or what
operating system. This can be important, particularly when dealing with
the idiosyncrasies of Finance::Quote.
Regardless, I'm using MacOS, Version 4.14.
