Greetings fellow users. I wanted to try out the latest - though unstable - versions. Downloaded and installed OK and I get the splash screen then it all disappears. Thinking it was my ageing MacPro mid 2010 running High Sierra I loaded it on my 2017 iMac running Ventura, with the same results.

Use File > Save as… to close GnuCash, and specify the location and file name (without the date.) That then becomes the file that you always open. The files with dates are the backups. If you take the earlier advice, you will set the number of backup files to keep in Preferences > General –

Adrien, Here is what I have found out.  Each time the program is closed it adds that date and time to the name of the file.  How can this be stopped? I can change the name of the file so that there is only one date for the file name and bring it up with all of the transactions in the file.

Hi Steve, I bet the lock (.LCK) file is getting deleted and explorer's desktop is just not refreshing. After you close Gnucash, select the desktop with a click and hit F5. I bet the lock file icon goes away. The log file won't, and shouldn't. If you follow everyone's advice and put it in

You seem to be saving your main file on the desktop, which is not a good practice. The program will save a backup and a log file in the folder where the main file is located. In your email, you show the log file and lock file. The lock file should be deleted when you close the program. Dan
