Thanks for feedback Adrien. Some new things to try. I have resolved as noted in

Personally, I got so tired of right-clicking to split and not being able to see
the detail of splits at a glance (nearly all of my transactions contain
multiple splits, I rarely have just a Dr/Cr basic transaction) that I just
switched to Transaction View and never looked back. (I also
David I just resolved by clearing all splits in the checking register entry and
creating new. Thx to all helpers!

I’m not sure if it’s the same issue really. I’m entering the transaction the

I enter the total on 1 register line like this:
Cash - $200
Then I right click and select split and enter:
—-——-— Expense

Reading the original post suggests
...So if you want to see only one line in the register view for a
particular account, enter only the total in the split line for that
account. There can still be as many other split lines as you want.

I had been using the transaction split to account for varied spending from
a cash withdrawal.
It would be listed as 1 line item - ATM Draw - Cash - Split - $200
Opening the split I could define Expense: Dining - $110
Expense: Cleaning -
