While removing the account works, it seems like a bug.
When I remove an account from Tools -> Import Map editor -> Online tab, I
get asked the next time which account I want to use when importing the
file. However, the Import Map Editor doesn't know how to process the file
and extract the account
Thanks John and David,

didn't have assigned the id, and it worked. I was asked to assign the
account when trying to import the file.

The other half is to select the radio button "online" on the top of the dialog.
That should display the online-id to GnuCash account associations and enable
you to delete any that are incorrect. If there's only one then perhaps
It is QFX.
I understand the process; however, it doesn't work. All the files are
assigned to the same account with no questions asked.
Is there a way to remove this association and start fresh?

Aleksandar,
Have you looked at the account assignments that are stored in the account
mapping. If you open the Map editor (Tools->Import Map Editor) and open the
Online tab you will find the information GnuCash is using to map the accounts.
It is possible that in early import attempts the wrong
According to

releases 3.0 onward you can open the Tools> Import Map Editor search the
Online ID list for the incorrect match and delete it. On the next import
GnuCash will ask for the correct match.

Aleksandar:
Which file format are you importing? The UI and procedure are slightly
different for each one. I am most familiar with OFX file import, and
secondarily with CSV file import.
At the beginning of the import process, there is a step when GnuCash has

Just to clarify that the files do have the account numbers and they are
different. Here is an obfuscated example:
CADXXXCREDITLINE
CADYYYCREDITLINE

And what version of GnuCash are you running? Newer releases have an easier
way to fix the problem.

I download the file from the bank's site and manually import it.
I can see the account number in the file. However, for whatever reason, the
application chooses another account and it seems that cannot be changed.

I have multiple accounts with the same institution, the transactions are
assigned to an already existing account.
How do I select the account I want to use for importing transactions?
