After reading this thread, I have experimented with hovering over the dividing
lines in the header, then double clicking and it does indeed fix the problem of
columns too narrow to show all digits. Also, thanks for the explanation about

I'm also on Catalina using 4.1
Read my replay to John on the steps to resize.
You can double click a column header to auto-size it to contain all
digits/text.
Then drag the right-hand divider for the description to the LEFT—far
more than you need to, and it will snap into place
1. Hover the mouse over the column separator to the right of the 'Total
Credit' header (or 'Withdrawal' or other, if you are using informal
labels) as this is the column just to the left of the Balance column
2. When you have the left-right mouse cursor, drag right. This *should*
expand the
nding left or right or
the mouse pointer overlaps with the vertical bar!
As you are probably aware it is like "splitting" 2 thin lines.

To reinforce what John said. I am also occasionally having issues with column
widths. Running 4.1.4 on MacOS 10.15.6. Sometimes the columns are not wide
enough to display all of the digits. Yesterday the cleared/reconciled column
was too narrow to see anything, just two vertical column

The short answer is “No, the columns are hard-coded.” If you wanted to change
the order, you could, but you’d need to rewrite the code and compile from your
modified source.
