Thanks for the replies! They help a lot and yes, it is a bad idea to let the error go. After reading the replies it struck me that the Advanced Portfolio report shows a Cost Basis for the ESOP Stock. These were profit sharing shares of stock and therefore the cost basis to me would be zero. I

While I am not an accountant, I fail to understand why you need to record a conversion from an unknown and unrealized gain or loss to a realized gain or loss without it affecting your balance sheet. If you do not enter realized gains and losses you do not have an accurate estimate of your net
