I'm glad it's working fine!

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 5.3 autofill headaches

2023-06-27 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I thought I saw that a Windows specific freeze bug related to the
autofill was fixed in the 5.2 release notes.

Perhaps a new bug has cropped up, or it wasn't fixed for all cases.

Or something is wrong with your particular data file, installation, or
system as it appears to be working for others as noted. (maybe you have
some sort of corrupted description in that particular register?)

Adrien

If I type any letter A-T, the list of prior descriptions pops up, but if I

if I type gibberish really fast when I get into the description box, I can
make the gibberish appear (not that that is useful!)

But if i try to type anything else, it generally (85%) of the time, will
freeze when I get to the second letter. Then i have to delete the entry.

I've tried re-downloading 5.3, I've tried re-starting GnuCash repeatedly,
I've rebooted, I've changed the size of window for GnuCash, so I dunno, I'm

I just wish there was a way to switch that "feature" off... I can't get it

Re: [GNC] How to search for a word in a description in an invoice

2023-06-27 Thread Adrien Monteleone
If you do accumulate splits, then the register transactions will
consolidate line items so there is only one split per affected account.

If you do not accumulate splits, all line items show up as their own
split. (thus putting the line item detail into the register transaction)

'Memo' is the field to search line items in this case as that is where
your line item description text will be. (other line item fields except
for total amount for that line, do not make it into the register)

As for key bindings to auto-select a search field? I doubt it, but maybe
the GTK Inspector can show you a clue if it is possible.

It would be nice to save search criteria though.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 5.3 autofill headaches

2023-06-27 Thread David Cousens
Steve,

There is AFAIK no general way to turn off auto-completion but when it is
initiated and highlights a transaction which it thinks is a match, there is a
popup "Don't autocomplete" above that first matching transaction which allows
you to choose not to autocomplete by clicking on it. The behaviour you describe
with "A-T" and "U-Z" doesn't occur in V5.3 built on Linux (Mint 21.3) so it may
be a Windows library problem rather than the GnuCash code itself.

You could raise a feature bug requesting the option of disabling autocompletion
completely or even on a register by register basis.

Hi Steve - the easiest is to just delete the gtk-3.0.css file. The default
folder location is: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\GnuCash

Re: [GNC] gnucash - Can't Save file

2023-06-27 Thread Adrien Monteleone

Neil,

Consider adjusting your preferences for Mac updates. I had a similar
problem years ago and turned off automatic installing updates. I still
get a notification and then it nags me if I don't get to it manually,
but that allows me to decide when to update and avoid losing data that
for whatever reason is not, or cannot be, saved at the moment.

Adrien

2023-06-27 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Yes, the Wiki covers theming. On Windows you can use an .ini file, or
you can use a custom CSS file.

Look over that section of the Wiki and check those two locations. You
can simply comment out the relevant lines in the respective files to
undo any changes you made.

That may not qualify as 'easy' but since you made manual changes the
first time, that is the way to undo them.

Re: [GNC] gnucash - Can't Save file

2023-06-27 Thread Neil Campbell
Hello Gyle

Thank you for that. Unfortunately overnight my computer (Apple Mini M1)
rebooted for some unknown reason and I lost it all anyway. But thanks for your
help. Yes, I did upgrade too soon, and should have known better. It was my
mistake, not theirs.

I just want to add that, like you, I am extremely grateful for the work done by
all the developers to keep GNUCash updated. I am a retired Accountant and find
it excellent for small business accounting which I do in a small way to help
small businesses get on their feet.

Best regards
Neil

*So I'm running Windows 11, for years have used GnuCash version 4.14.
 It
also shows I'm using Finance:Quote 1.53. When I go to prices, to "Get
Quotes" and click the button, it works fine, always has, still does.*

*BUT, when I install any GnuCash 5.0 version, the "Get Quotes" button is
grayed out, so I can't get any quotes. If I revert to 4.14, it works
 great
 again.*

*Any idea what's going on in GnuCash 5.0 and above that would cause
 that?*
