Derek, as I understand them the Ubuntu & Debian (which I use) distros are more conservative and tend towards safety rather than speed of releases. So the versions they carry are well behind the bleeding edge, because they wait for more thorough testing for stability. That helps less techie/geeky

GnuCash Release 2.6.19 is the last pre-packaged update that will be available for Ubuntu release 18.04 because of changes in Ubuntu long term releases. You will need to update your Ubuntu to 19.04 disco or, better, 20.04.1 LTS focal to benefit from the current pre-packaged release of GnuCash.

[GNC] Ubuntu distribution version

2020-08-22 Thread Derek Zehr
Hello Fellow GnuCashers, I installed GnuCash from Ubuntu software (Ubuntu 18.04), and it is version 2.6.19. But I see the latest release on gnucash.org is 4.1. Why is mine so far behind, and when can I expect the upgrades to come through Ubuntu's distribution? Thanks, Derek Zehr

Many thanks Geoff, It works perfectly, I now realise why I could not get CSV to work previously, as I assumed that "Transaction Commodity" should be the Stock, but I see now it should be the currency of the trade. The other thing that threw me was that when using a fraction for "Price" I had to

Thanks again Adrien. You are correct, I did upgrade from Jessie. I have just checked my own update log, which I save out of the terminal session. It shows a lot which has been held back, and I also ran autoremove to clear out a lot of unused stuff. There were plenty of python items there but I

The VM finished and restarted. Sure enough, python3.7.3 is installed by default. If you upgraded from a previous release, you might have pinned python to an earlier version and forgot, or the upgrade did not go as planned. If this was a fresh install of Buster, I'm not sure what happened, or
