Firstly
When something happens that finally is found to be user error, we still
need to share, because it helps the next person who has the same
problem.

Secondly
Your messages do not routinely appear on the /Mailing List/ after you
post, because you are not subscribed to the mailing list. They wait for
the moderator, which is me.
You choose to view the Nabble version of the mailing list, where it is
presented like a forum.

Lastly
Posts cannot be deleted. Email once sent, is there and somewhere for
ever. A note to say that you had quickly found the problem is fine.

[GNC] Income account bug for invoices - gnucash 4.5

2021-05-04 Thread Daffy Duck
Hello,

I upgraded to gnucash 4.5 with fedora 34.

In invoices, now, the "income Account" doesn't seem to work.  Drop down
shows nothing, and it certainly won't find my previously used accounts.

Any way around this?

[GNC] My bank revised previous FITID numbers

2021-05-04 Thread John Weldon
Hello;

Recently my bank completely revised all of the FITID numbers on every
transaction for my QFX downloads.

The new format is a guid, which is nicer than the previous format, but the
problem is the QFX importer now wants to import all of the old transactions
as new ones instead of recognizing they're already imported.

Is there any way to get gnucash to recognize the transaction and update the
FTID on the previously imported transactions?

I suspect I'll just have to refrain from downloading a QFX file with older
transactions in it.

Thanks

I do that too. just a note: if the current view is Basic, you need to
click the Split button in the toolbar to make all splits of the
transaction visible.

Re: [GNC] Reconcile Opening Balance

2021-05-04 Thread Mahon Finbar
Yes, the two suggestions are the way, I expect. I was just hoping to
avoid the formatting stuff, and the drudgery of checking. I enter the
various bank entries directly in the a/c where they 'belong' as I expect
most, non accountant trained, people do, especially if you came to Gnu
from Quicken

Matching from previous balance is  bit of a problem when you only do the
reconciles when the tax man calls., to avoid answering awkward
questions 

Most times the difference is in pennies, so I don't worry, [probably
finger problems].

Thanks for the help. BTW, what import format works best in your opinion?

(I still need to find the lacuna)

That way it is very easy to spot where there is a mistake.

If you can't automate this you can easily create a manual transaction
each month or week when you reconcile your account.

Within GnuCash it is computed (the sum on all reconciled data).
It *should* match the ending balance from your previous
statement.  You
can go check that.  If it does NOT match, then you might have
inadvertantly un-reconciled a previous transaction, or possibly
moved it
or accidentally changed it.

If the balance DOES match, then go through each transaction
carefully --
most likely there is a typo in there, a missing transaction, or an
extra
transaction.  (I had this issue recently where I mis-typed
something, and
strangely the difference exactly equalled another transaction..
It took
me about 3 passes before I finally found the issue).
