Re: [GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-10-01 Thread Dale Alspach
On Mint 20 there was no automatic update of the flatpak 4.1 version of
gnucash. Running
sudo flatpak update
I get
ID Branch Op Remote Download
 1. [✓] org.gnucash.GnuCash.Locale stable u flathub 1.0 MB / 7.3 MB
 2. [✓] org.gnucash.GnuCash stable u flathub 1.9 MB / 110.4 MB

I allowed the update and so far 4.1 seems to have been replaced with 4.2
without issues.

Thanks to the message from James I downloaded 4.2 for W10.

Maybe coincidentally, my Vivaldi browser crashed half way through the
download, but it restarted after restarting Vivaldi.

All OK in the end and the load is MUCH faster.

Thanks to all concerned.

Thanks Bruce!

It seems that the Flatpak update process is working as expected for you.

It might be a day or two till I get time to play, but I'm interested to
take a look at Mint 19.1 (based on Ubuntu 18.04) and see what happens
with various Flatpak install methods.

I suspect something else is at play for the affected users, perhaps a
non-standard Flatpak repo, or some custom preference with regards to
Flathub updates.

The trick will be to intentionally replicate it so as to determine the
cause, if this isn't default behavior for Mint.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-09-30 Thread Adrien Monteleone
It seems Gnome Software will now update Flatpaks automatically as of version
3.30. I suspect if you install from cli, it will not, but this is just a guess.

see:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=GNOME-3.30-Auto-Updates-Flatpak

However, I can't find info on if Mint uses it. The version in the Ubuntu 18.04
repo is 3.28.

Alos, why it grabbed a second Flatpak instead of replacing the original, I do
not know. (or why it changed the icon)

Perhaps that is a preference in Update Manager, or maybe a bug.

Adrien

I'd have to play with the Flatpaks again to see the icon issue I guess.

That makes sense you can have more than one version installed as
Flatpaks are self-contained. They (unless otherwise modified) can't see
each other and don't know the other is there. The system package manager
also doesn't know about them. Technically they are not 'installed' from
the perspective of the system package manager.

Clicking on about shows v4.2 flathub, checked the update manager but

been there under another abbreviated heading.

What's odd is there are two completely separate versions co-existing side by
side.

You need to download the new version and install it. You can't update
from within the app.

See https://gnucash.org for the Windows download link.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-09-30 Thread Jamestk
Its just the menu icon which has changed, the actual program when launching
reverts back to standard logo.

Clicking on about shows v4.2 flathub, checked the update manager but
couldn't see any obvious reference to GNUCash updates although it may have
been there under another abbreviated heading.

What's odd is there are two completely separate versions co-existing side by
side.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-09-28 Thread David Cousens
James,

Linux Mint generally doesn't upgrade application packages between releases.
They usually use whatever version of GnuCash was current in the Ubuntu
release on which the Linux MInt release is based although for LM20 that
lists 3.8b and V4.0 was what was initially installed for the repository when
I first upgraded to LM20. GnuCash is not loaded as a default package in LM
but is avavilable from the LM/Ubuntu apt repository.

The following command in a terminal will list the packages installed
initially in LM
zgrep '^Package:' /var/log/installer/initial-status.gz|sed 's/.* //'|sort

If you want to upgrade to the latest version it is usually necessary to
either build from the sources
(https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building_On_Linux)
or if there is a flathub or snap copy of the version you want, load that.

Re: [GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-09-28 Thread David Cousens
Not sure about 19.1 but Ulyana (LM 20) came with GnuCash v4.0 as the
repository version although apt-cache show lists 3.8b-1ubuntu1 from the main
ubuntu repository. For LM19.1 Ubuntu(18.04) it should be 2.6.19 as that is
what was listed in the Ubuntu package list for Bionic which LM19 was based
on.

The repository has both the Flathub and a normal binary version availbale.
It is possible the Flathub version may be more up to date It will be
maintained by one of the packagers in the Linux Mint community or simply use
the Ubuntu repository versions current at the LM version release date. It
likely will depend on what versions of the major library packages are
included in that release and the dependency of GnuCash on them.

What do you consider "the normal installation" in Mint Cinnamon 19.1? I
would presume that the Mint repositories would contain an older version of
GnuCash (3.8 or older). SO if you have 4.2 I would expect you to have
installed a FlatPak or built it yourself.

If you don't remember how you installed it, what version and build does
GnuCash show when you choose

Thanks for all of the hard work put into GNUCash, always appreciated.

Not yet a full time Linux user but noticed another GNUCash icon within the
Office menu (Mint Cinnamon 19.1) this loads a very fast GNUCash 4.2 without
the normal installation - is it installed as an upgrade if you have an older
version already installed?

Thanks

[GNC] GnuCash 4.2 Released

2020-09-27 Thread John Ralls
The GnuCash development team announces GnuCash 4.2, the third release in the

• Bug 102787 - Currency selection should do autocompletion

Adds ability to jump to arbitrary date.

• Bug 554391 - Tax Options dialog - can only assign one TXF category at
a time
If the Tax options dialog is opened from the Chart of Accounts and an account
is selected then the tax dialog will preselect that account.

• Bug 787295 - Allow UI jump from Business accounts to their relevant
invoice/bill/voucher
• Bug 797514 - Changing transaction unreconciles a split inconsistently
Partial: This make sure that the split's reconcile status gets updated before

transactions to the same existing one
• Bug 797839 - Auto-complete prevents entering non-ASCII transaction
descriptions

exported reports (Win10, German locale).
• Bug 797883 - [Transaction Report] non-localized string
• Bug 797889 - editing amounts in dr / cr behaving oddly
• Bug 797893 - Unable to change font size in charts
Use the stylesheet font values instead of hard-coded ones.

• Bug 797895 - Hang for a long time (9 minutes per account) importing a
QFX file.
• Bug 797896 - [HBCI] crash when downloading transactions
• Bug 797897 - Cannot select multiple accounts in Tax Report Options
• Bug 797898 - [reconciliation] calculated balance amount per
reconcilation date depending on actual time.
• Bug 797900 - Crash caused by Quitting while Check and Repair All is
running
• Bug 797923 - Running employee report results in "Unbound variable:
txn"
• Bug 797924 - Crash when searching for customer to process payment.
• Bug 797935 - Strange formal register headers
In languages other than English because of poorly constructed translatable
strings.

• Bug 797945 - Tools -> Import Map Editor causes GnuCash to lock up
The following fixes and improvements were not associated with bug reports:

• Update version in README, add Boost::program_options to dependencies.
• [report-utilities] compact functions
• Small fixes for various translation issues:
• Deduplicate translatable strings
• Add context to one-letter strings in guile code
• Fix typo in linked document gui Align translatable strings
• Expose C_ function (gettext with context string) to guile code, first
use is for the document link short code (L)
• Improve and repair progress bar display on a variety of reports and
windows, improving performance on several by reducing the number of progressbar
calls.
• [gnc-main-window] enable show_text for progressbar, allowing
gtk_progress_bar_set_text to actually display the progress text.
• Fix help_label of dialog-doclink.glade, remove question mark from
Available, and insert missing spaces into the Business Item variant.
• Rename all Transaction and Invoice Association identifiers to DocLink
to better reflect the purpose and for consistency with other software (e.g.
Libre Office).
• Rename Transaction and Invoice Associations to Document Links. More
clearly describes the actions and is more consistent with other software (e.g.
Libre Office).
• RRemove the Remove Linked Document context menu item because that can
be done in the Manage dialog box.
• Fix the horizontal scrollbar in the linked docs window.
• I18n - deduplicate translatable strings
• macOS: Give GnuCash time to shut down gracefully instead of letting
macOS pull the rug out.
• I18N: Align glossary to gnucash.pot. Create a similar copyright
header. Add missing Report-Msgid-Bugs-To.
• [report-utilities] More dump data functions:
• gnc:dump-book - splits grouped by account
• gnc:dump-all-transactions - splits grouped by transaction
• gnc:dump-split - dumps single split
• [business-urls] link to owner report with enddate
• [dialog-invoice] gnc_business_call_owner_report_with_enddate
• [new-owner-report][api] owner-report-create-with-enddate; accepts
enddate argument like owner-report-create.
• Enable exporting the tables
