Many thanks, Diane.
I was able to accurately reconcile both PayPal and our checking account
monthly using the old method as I would post each transaction from the
respective statement. It worked until we started getting payments from a
3rd-party servicer. Then I end up with a overpayment or a
Reinstalling GnuCash isn't likely to accomplish anything, and it's very
unlikely that updating Microsoft Access has anything to do with the problem. A
bit more troubleshooting is in order.
First, look at a tracefile (https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile) from a

John and David. Thank you for your time. Following Johns suggestion I have
located the latest gnu.trace file which is copied below. Could you help please
with identifying errors: It also seems that all data entries covering the month
of Nov2018 have been deleted from the lists of accounts (ie

Tried all these suggestions (including Mr Janssens suggestion naming the
file config-user.scm) and nothing new shows up in the reports pulldown.
The trace file after the reboot was empty.

Thanks, Adrien,
Thats exactly what I've been doing since your last message to me,
editing the entry in my PayPal register.
Thanks so very much for your responses. I needed to get my thinking
right as to process. I now understand it much better and am progressing
quick;y towards getting 2018
I just got my custom report to work on my wife's Windows 10 machine.
1. Be sure that notepad can open and read the files without strange
characters.
2. Files must be in the %APPDATA%/GnuCash folder
(C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\GnuCash)
3. Config file is named: config-user.scm
Arnie,
I just fired up GnuCash release 2.6.19 on Windows 10 Version10.0.17134
Build 17134and I produced and printed a couple of reports without a crash,
so if you have a comparable build, that would probably not be your problem.
Try John's suggestions if possible.

Thank you Stephen for your response. Sounds like sticking with 2.6.19 should be
OK unless I’m advised a later release would suit better. I cannot see any
un-names accounts but I follow your logic.

I am using Gnucash on two computers.
One is a Debian derivative and is running Gnucash 2.6.4
The other is Windows 10, running GnuCashPortable with version 3.1
I was using the file (created on Debian) just fine on both computers,
but one day I decided to try changing the format to the sqlite3
Unfortunately there are no useful clues in the trace file. You might try
opening a powershell window and starting GnuCash from the prompt (“C:\Program
Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash”) to see if guile is writing anything that
isn’t getting captured by the logging facility.
