I've installed 3.3 from Debian Sid in 18.04 and it's working fine...

No, the version in the 18.04 repo is 2.6.19, but 3.3 is available in the 18.10
repo.

Your other option would be flatpak, though I think it is still at 3.2, I
haven’t checked in a while.

You could also build 3.3 yourself. The process is not very difficult and the
wiki instructions have been greatly improved and simplified.

Those reports are great - and actually custom-vs-average and ytd-budget were
one of the main reasony why I've abandoned #plaintextaccounting after using
(h)ledger for several months and returned back to GnuCash.

+1 for including those reports into official package and regularly maintain
them.

2018-05-13 Thread Cindy Doughty
I just got back form vacation and see that version 3 has broken some of the
custom reports I developed. If Chris doesn't get them fixed, I will try to
update to version 3 and fix them in the next couple of weeks. I hope to
work on having a couple of them added to the main package put got back to
working full time after developing them last year. Just started back up a
couple of my Linux machines so I can try doing some development work over
the next few months.

Re: [GNC] Version 3

2018-04-17 Thread John Ralls
That means either that it started up and ran without any errors or that it
crashed before it could generate any output.
Of course it also means that the one from 17 April isn't going to be of any use.

First, try installing
https://code.gnucash.org/builds/win32/maint/gnucash-3.0-2018-04-17-git-3.0-75-g87f94abc8+.setup.exe.
If it still crashes, open a shell window (command or powershell is fine) and run
"c:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe" --debug

That will dump a lot of progress information that may help identify the
problem. There may also be some output to the shell window that indicates the
problem.

John Ralls

[GNC] Version 3 configuration files

2018-04-16 Thread Chris Good
Hi,

In
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_Where_can_I_find_the_gtk_resource_file.
3F

GnuCash 3.0 and newer
…
Microsoft Windows
The GnuCash configuration directory is FOLDERID_RoamingAppData\GnuCash
(FOLDERID_RoamingAppData was called CSIDL_APPDATA on Microsoft Windows XP®),
by default on Windows Vista and later C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming. Gtk
puts its configuration directory at FOLDERID_LocalAppData\gtk-3.0.

What is this FOLDERID_RoamingAppData?

In Windows 10, environment variable
APPDATA=C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming
There is NO FOLDERID_RoamingAppData.

I think this page should be updated to say for Windows 10: %APPDATA%\GnuCash

I don't know about Windows 7 or 8. Can some users of those please let me
know and I will update the wiki.

Also:

https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_How_do_I_backup_my_GC_environment.2C_in
cluding_preferences.3F

Gnucash 3.0 and newer
…
1. Windows
 %CSIDL_APPDATA%/Gnucash

I think maybe should be:
%APPDATA%\Gnucash NOTE backward slash
as GnuCash 3 no longer supports Windows XP or Vista.

Regards, Chris Good
