All the work to be done for 3d plots is in Goffice. The data support in Gnumeric is already there.
We are interested in surface plots at the moment, and I already made some work last summer. There is a patch at http://jean.brefort.free.fr/surfaces.patch.bz2, but I'm not sure it would still apply without conflict. I also posted sample image of a surface (with transparency) http://jean.brefort.free.fr/surface1.png. What is missing? Many, many things, the most urgent being: - the axes; - a user interface for the 3d view settings.
