You might be interested to have a look at the University of Tasmania's ePrints repository http://eprints.utas.edu.au/. If you browse by year you will find the oldest entry dated at 1150 CE http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/year/1150.html (uploaded in the last few years of course - computers were not exactly common then). Is this a record?
