Governor’s pleasure is others’ pain:
When Governor S C Jamir darts on the court at Indoor Stadium, Campal,
retrieving a
difficult placement or executing a hard smash, his agility is really amazing.
But
there is hardly anybody around to watch him in action.
For when the Governor turbs up at Campal to enjoy ‘the racquet and shuttle’
game,
it means most others have to be kept out.
After he leaves the royal precincts of Raj Bhavan and arrives at Campal,
accompanied
by an entrourage of cars, police and security, the ordinary citizens and
sportsmen
availing the infrastructure at Indoor Stadium have to wait. “We are not allowed
to
play when the Governor is playing. This is just not fair”, a regular visitor
bemoaned.
Francis Almeida, a retired banker who plays badminton says, “Twice, whilst I was
playing badminton with friend in the evening, I was asked to wrap up my game to
make
way for the Governor due to security reason”. Another lady says “We are not even
allowed to enter the Indoor Stadium, when the Governor playing inside..” GT

JoeSays: I too wanted to write on this: I have seen at least 4 cars/jeeps with
atleast 12 people accompanying the governor to and fro Indoor Stadium plus
several
other policemen every 200 meters or at junctions on the road from Campal to Raj
Bhavan. God knows how many security guards are there to protect him at his
current
official residence surrounded by land and sea. WHAT A WASTE OF PUBLIC MONEY
!!!!!
A suggestion: Governor/s should be given an alternate official residence say
within the new assembly Complex or nearby and he should be made to vacate the
‘Cabo
Raj Niwas’ which should be declared as public/tourist place (heritage building).
Perhaps, the lesser known state museum near bus stand be shifted here including
the
two classic cars which belong to the last Governor General of Goa (Vasselio e
Silva
?) which are gathering dust at St.Inez Fire Station. Adil Shaha’s Palace (old
secretariat) is vacated, now it is time to vacate ‘Cabo Raj Niwas’. It may be
noted, people around Donapaula used to go there (Raj Bhavan) for Sunday Masses
which
is now stopped due to security reasons.

In the mean while, the Dept. of Archives and Archaeology decided to spend Rs.4
crores for restoration work and has invited agencies, architects and
conservationists with experience to help in the restoration, beautification and
maintenance of historical monument- Cabo de Rama fort at Kola, Canacona.
