Da Costa titled "Dabolim vs Mopa". This is a discursive piece mainly intended in a most roundabout way to justify the Navy presence at Dabolim. It also concludes by giving a weak plug for Mopa.
For our purposes the interesting statement is in the middle and reads as follows: "Karwar cannot provide close protection to Goa". Fine. Goa needs protection ONLY because of the naval base at Vasco! But that's another matter. So if the quoted line is true then its reverse should also be true viz "Goa cannot provide close protection to Karwar"! Who will protect Karwar, the mammoth naval base, in these circumstances? Will it be a sitting duck without an air base in the premises? The punch line: If there is such a naval air station at Karwar, why cant it take on some of the flight training load currently assigned to Dabolim? WHY?
