We wasted the better half of last year scrambling on the Town and Country planning ordinance an agitation with apparent political dimensions that mysteriously fizzled off with a trip to New Delhi by the Santa Cruz MLA, Victoria Fernandes.
Now the better half of this year is poised to wriggle on the airport issue. Thanks to our Portuguese-educated MP, Churchill Alemao. Any berth for Churchill in the Union cabinet may have done the trick. But the MPLAD scheme revelations has sealed the South Goa MP's hopes. The Goa Airport imbroglio should be resolved by the release of the techno-economic feasibility report by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Airport de Paris International (ADPI). Without that our politicians will just not leave the issue in peace. While on the Airport issue, an inquiry into all recent land deals within a radius of 10 kms of the proposed Mopa Airport would unravel some startling revelations. Besides the politicians at least one senior Goa Civil Service officer has a lot at stake. Its time our leaders focus on Goa's very pressing problems. Rampant Corruption, Unemployment, Law and order which needs to be attended to on a priority. And of course the garbage issue continues to haunt us not forgetting the stray dogs and the mosquitoes galore. And nobody knows why the River Princess remains so firmly grounded.
