KUWAIT GOANS ASSOCIATION WINS EXPATS FINAL IN KUWAIT.

In a not too exciting final of Expatriates South Asian Foot-ball Championship, new comers on expatriate soccer scene Kuwait Goans Association defeated another Goan outfit G.O.A. by 3 – 1, all the goals coming in the second half. The match started at 2.30 PM and both the teams took the field rather exhausted since both teams played semifinal at Sour Grounds in the morning in another tournament where G.O.A. lost to Bombay Boys and KGA defeated Santos by 2 – 0. During the first session of the final of E-SAF-C, organized by Mount. Everest Sporting Club – Katmandu, Kuwait, both the finalists sponsored by BenQ.SiemenS played very cautiously circulating the ball in the midfield only and whenever there was any attack, goalkeepers on either side came to the rescue of their respective teams. In the second half, KGA with some important tips from their big man Derrick Gomendis changed the outlook of their game by dishing out fast soccer with methodical play and accurate passing and in the 20th minute of this half getting the ball near his feet outside the box, Ashton Fernandes released a nice but surprise right footer which baffled the G.O.A. keeper under their bar when the ball hit the net. Within 5 minutes right outer Vicky receiving a nice pass from Ashton sprinted with the ball and hit it thru the angle where G.O.A. keeper was guarding his post and who had no option but to bring the ball from the net. The third goal of KGA was scored by their stylish forward Alex in the 30th minute when receiving a nice feed on the left flank from Ashton and dribbling past 2 defenders from the left side then moving into the centre nicely placed the ball into the goal of G.O.A. The lone consolation goal of G.O.A. was scored by their hardworking Miranda whose free kick hit one of the defenders of KGA and the ball deflected into KGA net of course to the surprise of Cony under the bar of the winners. The final was umpired by the Kuwaiti referees.

The man of the Tournament Trophy was awarded to Ashton Fernandes who also had a distinction of scoring goals in every match of this tournament.

Before the start of the final, The president, the Gen. Secretary and the Adviser of the organizers thanked all the participating teams, spectators and everyone who helped in supporting this tournament which was a big success. Amongst others who spoke on that day were Mr. Manuel the president of KIFF and the chief guest Mr. Qabandi from Amiri Deewan who showered lavish praises on the organizers for so successfully organizing this tournament which brought the participating countries and their people closer to one another. Later on after the final speaking to this writer, Mr. Qabandi said without having any patronage officially from Kuwait the organizers have done this job wonderfully spending time and money of their own. They deserve official support, concluded Mr. Qabandi. Also speaking to the skipper Coney of KGA after the match “how he is feeling to lift the glittering trophy of the first edition of this tournament,” said the former Cabral and Vasco Sports Club (GOA) goalkeeper, “I feel very proud, this is the first time in my life I lift the winners trophy this way”.
