Malaika Song - Anita Konkani Song

Thanks for many netters for giving details and original text of the song Malaika. It was very popular especially the tune of it amongst Goans in mid sixties and seventies though many during that time were unaware of the correct words. However its catchy tune attracted the most. Many of the musicians of those days used to play for weddings and for the village feasts. Johnson and His Jolly Boys used to mesmerise everyone by playing its music. The popularity of this song amongst Goans reached to its zenith when the late C. Alvares in his Tiatro "Kedna Udetolo To Dis" applied its tune to one of the beatiful "cantos" in this drama. This song "Anita" was beatifully rendered by the then beautiful Ophelia Cabral before her nmarriage to Bab Peter, it was somewhere around 1970/1971. The musicians also played very beautifully especially Clarinet had very good effect, I dont now well remember the names of those musicians, it looks to me Fidelis & his troupe. While Ophelia was singing on the stage wearing a majectic and long blue Nightgown, melodious singer the late Alfred Rose from behind the curtain supporting Ophelia by rendering his alto "segundo" in a very melifluent voice. Can anyone now amongst the current tiatrists compose and render such a beautiful romantic song? I doubt. Amongst all the Tiatros of C. Alvares around 100, Kedna Udetolo To Dis was one of the best tiatros of his and Ophelia played a very stellar role that made this tiatro most popular. During my recent visit to Bombay when I met her at her residence, during our pleasantires I reminded her of this song and her excellent role she played in this drama. She was so happy to know that people still remember her for her beautiful roles and having lost her control, she sobbed bitterly till her servant came and stopped her because it is not good for her to cry and roll tears from her already operated eyes. She grew in age but still youthfull in her thoughts and talk, May God give her good health and long life.

Herebelow is the text of that song "Anita"

'ANITA"

Anita, bhurgea baxen maka khelloita,
Anita, tuzo mog kalliz bhavoita,
Niz mog kela tuzo ugddas dhor, nirmollponan tum cholxi tor,
Moron Khonddan aum vocho sor, Anita mozo mog tum kor.

Mogacho, thau azun konnank mellonkna,
Mogacho ghutt lipon dovorlear rabona,
Kallzan mog rigtoch tuzo, konnacheanuch to kaddunknozo,
Ulpochona mog lailear uzo, Anita mog ho tuzo mozo.

Thank you.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
