Mopa land acquired for first phase of airport BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 15 - According to information furnished to the Goa Assembly on Tuesday, the first phase 51,27869 sq mts from five villages of Chandel, Casarvarnem, Mopa, Varkhand and Amberem land had been acquired and as private land and 3,26,980 sq mts is government land. It was pointed out that section 6 of Land Acquisition Act has been invoked and the proceedings have reached the award stage. Draft awards of two villages Chandel and Casarvarnem have been submitted to government for approval.
In the second phase, additional land of 23,71,621 sq mts for the construction of the airport is proposed to be acquired. The notification under section 4 with urgency clause had been notified the proceedings for this area has lapsed in January 2006. In the third phase an area of 8,84,812 sq mts for approach road to the new international airport had been proposed to be acquired. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the consultants appointed for preparing the Techno-Economic Feasibility (TEF) study have submitted their final report to the steering committee on Mopa airport in September 2005. The steering committee suggested changes, which were incorporated and submitted in November 2005. The TEF report is pending final acceptance by the steering committee and the government. The finalisation of a report of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and Environment Impact Assessment Study of the proposed airport at Mopa is in progress. Till then, there is a temporary stay on all works pertaining to the Mopa airport. ~(^^)~ Avelino
