Parrikar lashes out at Rane govt NT Staff Reporter Panaji Feb 14: The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar lashed out at the Rane government and said Mr Rane should vacate the chief minister's chair by December. He said if Mr Rane failed do so, then the Bharatiya Janata Party will pull him down with the help of the electorates in Valpoi. "Mr Rane should take this rally as a mass movement against his misrule and should resign and pave way for the BJP which could deliver the good to the people far better than the Congress," he said. Mr Parrikar said the Congress only knows how to crush poor and the downtrodden by way of drastic increase in prices of commodities like rice, sugar besides LPG. The Congress party was never a party of downtrodden like the BJP, he said and added that the Rane government was responsible for keeping poor Saleli residents in the jail for nearly one month. Mr Parrikar said for many years Panaji city was famous as a tourist spot but now it is known as the city of morchas and rallies. The BJP leaders and the member of the Parliament, Mr Sripad Naik challenged the Congress to bring such a huge political morcha in the city. He said there was sharp hike in the water and electricity bills. "We had a reason to boycott Governor's address yesterday and we knew that the Governor was supposed to praise performance of the government in power," Dr Suresh Amonkar said, adding that the Rane government was a big failure on all fronts. The state BJP chief, Mr Rajendra Arlekar said the people have shown their power by participating in the rally in thousands and this was enough for Mr Rane to think and relinquish the office. The BJP workers tried to break open the cordon and pull the barricades from the police. The strong crowd of BJP workers was joined by their leaders, Mr Francisco De Souza, Mr Dayanand Mandrenkar, Mr Vinay Tendulkar, Mr Satish Dhond, Ms Kunda Chodankar.
