Pool cleaner electrocuted oHERALDo BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, JAN 27 - A young swimming pool cleaner from Orissa engaged by a starred hotel at Benaulim met a tragic death after he was electrocuted in the pool in the wee hours of Thursday. In a related development, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao Suresh Pilarnekar has declined to grant permission to transport the deceased body to his native State for the moment for want of proper documents. Colva police disclosed that Shiba Pradhan (24) was electrocuted at around 5.30 on Thursday morning when he got down the swimming pool with a hoover for cleaning.
PI Nelson Albuquerque informed that while Shibu was in the processing of cleaning the pool, the halogen lamp stand reportedly fell into pool, electrocuting the cleaner. He was rushed to Hospicio Hospital where he was declared dead. While the police today issued a NOC for transporting Shibu's dead body to his native place, SDM Pilarnekar raised a host of questions on the inquiries conducted by the Colva police. In the first place, the NOC issued by the police to the deceased relatives to transport the body had no stamp of the Colva police station. Secondly, the SDM sought to know why the police have not submitted the post mortem report of the deceased to his office along with the NOC for transporting the dead body. Moreover, the SDM has asked the police to inform the relatives of the deceased before allowing to transport his body back home. PI Albuquerque, however, said that he has received the post mortem examination report, attributing Shibu's death to electrocution. He said the police had informed the Electricity department officials on Thursday itself to give a report whether Shibu's death was on account of electrocution or any negligence on the part of the starred hotel. "The police are awaiting the report from the Power Department. We have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of the IPC", he said.
