It is so sad that the so-called freedom struggle for Goa produced so many beggars in the post liberation era...specially after 30 years or more of the Indian military take over[ call it liberation or conquest or police action or whatever...but by use of uniformed forces, just the same]. Did these patriots not produce a single off-spring who can take care of them in their old age?? A 25 year old person in 1961 will be well past his 65 th birthday by now. In Goa he would be eligible for old age pension.
.................................. ----- Original Message ----- Honorarium sought for Goa freedom fighters Deccan Herald - Internet Edition Monday, May 8, 2006 Goa Freedom Fighters' Association on Sunday said that Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy has assured it of re-introducing the scheme of providing honourarium for Goa freedom fighters, hailing from Karnataka. "Due to this move as many as 500 genuine freedom fighters were deprived of the benefits", Doreswamy lamented adding that it was **the duty of the state government to honour the satyagrahi's. ** http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/may82006/state191919200657.asp .......................................... How does it become the DUTY of the state to honour freedom fighters. Did the state employ them to fight for something? Did these people fight[ if at all some of them did] for the honour or for the freedom....that they now deny meritorious students through reservations for their wards in institutions! Viva Goa.
