Sporting Clube de Goa to guard against complacency PANAJI, JAN 27 (PTI): Super Cup champion Sporting Clube de Goa will have to guard against complacency when they lock horns with Salgaocar tomorrow in the 10th ONGC National Football League at Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Margao. Sporting, who drew three matches and won one, are placed fourth with six points, two points below East Bengal who are leading the table with 8 points from four matches.
Salgaocar, who lost to Mohammedan Sporting, are placed sixth with four points from three matches. Sporting's main stay in the attack Edeh Chidi will not play tomorrow on account of double booking. Medios Joseph Pereira and Wilton Gomes are also ruled out due to injuries. Sporting, who played against Salgaocar three times this season, have won all the times, which gives them an edge over their opponent. Sporting Clube de Goa President Peter Vaz said his team is all set for the big match. "The morale of Salgaocar, who have drawn against East Bengal in their own yard, is high and we have to guard against complacency," Vaz said. Salgaocar will miss the service of medio Micky Fernandes who got red card in their match against Mohammedan Sporting. "The confidence of our boys are high despite having lost to Mohammedan Sporting. With their Chidi ruled out, we have to guard medio Bibiano Fernandes and striker Dudu Omagbemi in whom the whole team revolves. We have worked out strategy to keep them quite," said Savio Medeira, Salgaocar's coach. He added that it will be a close contest "as both the teams knows each other's strengths and weaknesses.
