Victoria Fernandes' threat to crash the film festival was a hoax call. As anticipated she took off to New Delhi abandoning her sinking and sulking troops apparently at an invitation by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Margaret Alva who, not suprisingly, was herself not contactable in Delhi to meet Mrs. Fernandes.
If the Congress party wants to get their act together and seriously cleanse Goa out of its political rot they have to learn a lesson from this Victoria Fernandes saga. The Santa Cruz MLA is no novice to Goa's maoveuring and never ending political dramas. As an aging politician she should have risen to the occasion by showing some restraint before openly and grossly flouting party discipline and ethics while still firmly holding on to the high constitutional post of Deputy Speaker and playing into the hands of communal forces who were trying to stir the shit. It is winter in Delhi and rightly, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi will keep Mrs. Fernandes waiting for an audition. We all know how Victoria has conveniently flirted with the BJP to settle her personal scores and take on her rival within her own Congress party, Babush Monserrate. Victoria Fernandes owes an apology to the Congress party whose name, she as an MLA and Deputy Speaker, has unwarrantedly damaged. Above all she owes an unqualified apology to two young and senior charismatic leaders of Santa Cruz Constituency whose names were tarnished by wild allegations, allegedly at her insistence. Long-term Santa Cruz Sarpanch William Gonsalves and Merces Zilla Parishad Member Kishore Narvekar have in their own humble way contributed for the development and welfare of Santa Cruz Constituency. Victoria Fernandes has let us down by putting her personal agenda over public interest. Regardless we should yet vehemently push for the 33% reservation for women to all assembly and parliament elections. May be Victoria Fernandes like Mathany Saldhana was cut out to be just a social activist and handle Goa's burning issues of mounting garbage and horrifying stray dogs which conveniently skip the politician's eyes as they are issues which cannot be resolved by ordinances but need the expertise of the likes of Victoria Fernandes and Mathany Saldhana Aires Rodrigues ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
