PREFACE
The picture-postcard image of Goa promoted through colourful tourism brochure is too
fantastic to
be true. Of course this tiny pearl is beautiful, its architectural splendour is a
pride and the
people are Susegad. Goa spells peace.
But deep beneath that peace haven there is storm brewing that is appalling and
threatens to blur
the image beyond recognition. We know it. We see the storm coming. But we just lack
the vision and
the foresight to counter that advancing disaster.
Without ill will or malice against any individual or organisation, I have taken the
liberty myself
to call a spade a spade. Nothing more. Nothing less.
This book takes a caustic and unabashed look at the emerging Goa that presents a bleak
picture to
a discerning mind. It is a satirical commentary on the contemporary issues affecting
Goa and
Goans. It is an attempt to make people look deeper into the obvious and to explore new
depths in
understanding the rape of Goa. It seeks to take a fresh look at the way of life of the
Goans with
all its foils, foibles and idiosyncrasies.
The book seeks to provide an insight into whats beyond the natural beauty and
architectural
splendour of Goa. It is however, not all criticism. It ends on a positive note over
the treasured
traditions of communal harmony in the state which has survived many a storm over the
years.
Perhaps that is the only silver lining in the clouds that have enveloped Goa from
every quarter.
The Naked Goa projected here beyond all its frills of beauty and grandeur is a reality.
That frightening reality is spreading its tentacles slowly but surely and brings with
it decay and
despair not development and progress.
