GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS
Dec 01, 2004

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Gelolo portun enam. (No one goes away and then
comes back.) domnic fernandes [EMAIL PROTECTED]

EXPOSITION 2004 PHOTO FEATURE: A small photo feature on the Exposition
of the Sacred Remains of St Francis Xavier which opened at Old Goa on
November 21. Please Check at

RAMPAGING ELEPHANTS ENTER MHADEI VALLEY: Not far from Goa's border at Terwan
Medhe, the forest department had initiated the 'Elephants, Back to Home'
mission in co-ordination with other agencies, to drive away rampaging
elephants in the catchment area of the Tillari dam. But there are reports
that it has failed and the belligerent pachderms have retreated into the
Mhadei valley. Two of the trained elephants to be engaged in the novel
mission turned wild and the forest department officials had no option but to
push them in truck and send them back.14 of the elephants moved away from
Tillari and entered Goa's order at Surla on Saturday (Nov 27), and caused
some damage to the banana plantations in the rooftop village, according to
Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan secretary, Rajendra Kerkar. (GT)

PIRACY TAKES CENTRE STAGE: The issue of film and music piracy figured at the
International Film Festival of India with film professionals calling for
concerted efforts to deal with the menace even as the Union Minister for
Information and Broadcasting, Jaipal Reddy, said he would involve chief
ministers of all the States on implementing laws against piracy. A
45-minutes trailer, launched simultaneously in 40-member countries by the
Motion Picture Association of America, was inaugurated by the Minister
during the inauguration of the Indian Panorama section at the INOX
multiplex. (H)

GOA RIGHT CHOICE : The noted film producer-director, Mr Vidhu Vinod Chopra,
said that shifting the International Film Festival of India to Goa has
emancipated the event from the typical Babudom of Delhi. Earlier, veteran
film director, Mr Yash Chopra, inaugurated the Indian mainstream film
section of the film festival with screening of the film Munnabhai MBBS,
produced and co-scripted by Mr Vidhu Chopra. Chopra lauded the Chief
Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, for delivering what he had promised in view
of holding the film festival in Goa. The grit of Mr Parrikar is worth
applauding, he observed. Later speaking to The Navhind Times, Mr Vidhu
Vinod Chopra acknowledged that Goa has the right mood for the film festival.
This is a film festival, not a science seminar or a finance convention, and
creation of right mood is of paramount importance, he pointed out. (NT)

IFFI DRAWS HUGE CROWD: On Monday there was no film screening on the Miramar
beach. But it was clear that the best option for the music lovers to move to
Miramar. Thousands of people, including delegates and top film officials
converged on the beach much to the surprise of the organizers. There was a
live band playing. Famous director Yash Chopra also made a mention of the
beach during a programme at Inox multiplex. One ay two of IFFI, the main
attraction on the Miramar beach was Mission Impossible. By 7.30 pm, the
roads leading to Miramar were being battered from both sides. Parking
continues to be a major problem at Miramar. (H)

AT CAMPAL PROMENADE: The second day of the 35th International Film festival
of India saw a crowd enjoying the multitude of entertainment on offer at the
picturesque Campal promenade. The street was lined up with spectators
watching the variety of programmes that included street clowns walking on
stilts, folk dancers, a live band Brothers-in-Arms, an orchestra, a
magician, a mime artiste and other entertainment events. Folk dancers from
Quepem, Kepechim Kirnam, attracted quite an audience who watched the troupe
dancing to the lively rhythmic folk songs. (H)

TECHNICAL SNAG: During the premier screening of The Forgotten by Joseph
Ruben at the Kala Academy at 5.30 pm, there was a 30-second pause caused by
a technical sang that resulted in a failure of the sound system, followed by
another disturbance caused by the focus lights directed towards the screen.
This raised howls of protest from the audience of delegates. The Forgotten
drew wide applause for its beautiful cinematography and sound effects,
besides its unique story line. (H)

THE SHOW MUST GO ON: We can step aside and grill Chief Minister Parrikar on
lapses, loopholes and lack of complete transparency but even if that
criticism may be valid, it still does not take away from the work both he
and the Directorate of Film Festivals has put in to give Goa IFFI.
