TWO GOANS DIE IN ALASKA SEA DISASTER: Two Goans are among the five Indian
crew members feared dead after a Malaysia ship ran aground off the cost of
Alaska last week. The five, along with a Filipino, were on board a US Coast
Guard rescue helicopter that crashed into the sea. All efforts to search
them failed by Saturday (December 11), according to reports. The Goan crew
members were identified as Blaise M Mascarenhas (33) and Zeferino M Vaz
(46), both from Salcete. (H)

CABINET TO DISCUSS PENDSE REPORT: The much awaited report regarding the
one-time settlement by the Economic Development Corporation is likely to be
discussed on 15 December, according to reliable sources. The Pendse
Commission was appointed by the State Government in October last year after
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president
and MLA Luizinho Faleiro locked into a fight over the issue of OTS by the

DELIMITATION BATTLE HOTS UP: It's not only geography, but history too that
was relied upon before the Delimitation Commission for and against the
political boundaries. If geography was repeatedly mentioned to drive home a
point vis-à-vis the four constituencies in Mormugao, history was relied on
in Salcete, especially in respect of Velim, Cuncolim and Navelim

RESERVE MAPUSA AS SC CONSTITUENCY: The Voters Forum from Pernem taluka on
Tuesday demanded that the Pernem constituency be dereserved and that the
Mapusa constituency be reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates by
reorganising all the constituencies from the Bardez taluka. (GT)

ABVP THREATENS STIR: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Goa branch, on
Tuesday threatened to hold agitation to demand revaluation of answer books
of the first second and fifth semester of Law examinations even as the Goa
University registrar Dr Jayant S Budkule tried in vain to explain the
factual position to the students. (GT)

ANOTHER CASINO AWAITING GOVT NOD: Even as Goa's first floating casino is
sailing through rough weather, the Mandovi river may soon become home to a
second floating casino, subject to the approval of the State government.
According to sources the passenger vessel, Cappadocia, will house a floating
casino, permission for which is still waited from the Home department.

Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a Goa-based company whose director is listed as one

LEOPARDS IN SINQUERIM: Animal attendant from the Campal Range Forest Office,
Sainath Shirodkar, said, Two leopards have been sighted near the Aguada jail
by many people around the area. Recently, a leopard entered a toilet outside
a residential house. In another case, the animal jumped on a jeep that was
going towards the Aguada jail. (GT)

GOA LIBERATION DAY CELEBRATIONS: The State will celebrate Goa Liberation Day
on December 19. The main function will be held at the Parade grounds,
Campal, Panaji, at 9.15 am, where the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar,
will hoist the national flag and will also present awards for outstanding

PANJIM CARNIVAL: The Panjim festivals and Carnival Committee has decided to
organise Carnival on a grand scale from February 5 to 8, 2205, with music,

ORLIM PANCHAYAT REFUSES: The Village Panchayat of Orlim gram sabha on Sunday
decided not to grant NOC to Reliance Infocom Limited to erect the mobile

with the Margao Municipal Council recently signing a memorandum of

GIRL COMMITS SUICIDE: One Sumathi Subramanya, 18, hailing from Tamil Nadu
and residing at Rawanfond in a chawl, committed suicide consuming some

MALVANI FOOD FESTIVAL: Starting from today, upto 21 December, a Mast Malvani
food festival will be organised at the Hotel Delmon, Panaji. Alcon Hotels
(Goa) Private Ltd, executive public relations officer Anjali Walavalkar said
on Tuesday that Malvani food has a more sharper taste and the curries are
mot 'hot'. The dry mutton and chicken are dishes for occasions. (GT)

XAVIER'S PSYCHOBLITZ 2004: The Post-Graduate Department of St Xavier's
College will hold Xavier's Psychoblitz-2004, a state-level inter-collegiate

DALGADO AKADEMI'S MUSICAL SHOW: Dalgado Konknni Akademi will organise a
grand musical show, Ek Konknni Sangitachi Sanz, on 17 December at 7 pm at
the Holy Spirit Church Grounds, Margao. The aim of organising the musical
programme is to create awareness among the people about Goan culture and
Goan identity. To mark the occasion, Pormoll, the annual magazine of Dalgado
Konknni Akademi will be released. Senior artistes of Konkani stage will also
be felicitated at the musical show. The programme is open to the public.

directed by the noted tiatrist, Mark de Araujo, will be released in the
