The well-attended camp was organised by the Goa Konknni Academy in collaboration with Konknni weekly "Vavraddeancho Ixtt" at the Pilar Seminary Annexe. Veteran writer and tiatrist John Gomes Kokoy was the chief guest on the occasion. Fr Pratap Naik of the SKK, Felicio Cardozo, Tomazinho Cardozo and Damodar Mauzo were the resource persons. (GT) ANJUNA LOCAL ACQUITTED: The First Additional Sessions Court has acquitted Laurence Almeida of Anjuna of having murdered Eugenio Lobo, also of Anjuna, pointing out several discrepancies in the investigation done by the investigating officer. The case of the prosecution was that on January 5, 2002, the accused assaulted Eugenio at Oneachebhatt with a spade and stones, causing serious injuries on the face and forehead due to which he died. (H) MUSSEL AND OYSTER FARMING: Goa has immense potential for diversification of brackish water aquaculture. Mussels and edible oysters are two such species which can be grown alone or along with shrimps without affecting the environment. These two species are filter feeders, and can be grown in the existing shrimp farms and also in brackish water and shallow bays utilizing the naturally available plankton as their food. (GT) GUJ MEMBERS TO MEET: The Goa Union of Journalists has appealed to all working journalists to assembly at the Secretariat press room at 10 am today to participate in the dharnas to demand withdrawal of notices to four local newspapers by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The sales tax evasion and revenue leakage which had continued during the Congress regime has been curtailed effectively. This had led to a substantial rise in the tax and non-tax revenue. It is only in the infra-structure and social sector that the present government has to resort to deficit financing to fund its new schemes. Public debt has been rising but the only way to reduce it is to raise the taxation rates in a state where people pay the highest per capita taxes in the country.
