GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS 26 Sep 2003 SHACK OWNERS SUBMIT MEMO TO PARRIKAR: A delegation of the All Goa Shack Owners Association yesterday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with regards to the hike in licence fees for the beach shacks. The memorandum highlighted the fact that the beach shacks had over the last three decades played a pivotal role in enhancing the tourism trade in the State as well as the primary attraction among foreign and domestic tourists visiting Goa for beach tourism. The essence of the beach shacks was that they were family-run small businesses that provide the right ambience for the foreign and domestic tourists who wish to taste Goan food and experience Goan hospitality at first hand. DECISION IN TWO DAYS: CM Manohar Parrikar assured the delegation of All Goa Shack Owners Association that the government will give due attention to the demands of the shack owners and will take a final decision in two days after consulting the Tourism minister. (H) FOUR-LANE BRIDGE ACROSS ZUARI: The State government has set the wheels in motion for the construction of a four-lane Rs.200 crore bridge across the Zuari river and has invited tenders for its construction. (H) EDC TO ATTACH PROPERTY OF PARSEKAR ASSOCIATES: The Economic Development Corporation has initiated process of attaching the property offered as principal security for availing a term loan of Rs.4.86 lakh by M/s Parsekar Associates, for setting up a crusher unit in Pernem taluka, following revelation of various defaults by the firm. The Corporation has filed a criminal case against the promoter of the firm, Mr Narhari Parsekar, a brother of BJP president, Mr Laxmikant Parsekar, after two cheques for Rs.27,000 and Rs.3.80 lakh, issued by him, were dishonoured. (NT) CHURCHILL FOR LS BATTLE: Former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao is mustering the support of all communities, including Kannadigas domiciled in Goa, preparing to win the Lok Sabha polls due in October next year. There are nearly three lakh Kannadigas residing in the State and they appeared to be a crucial vote-tilting factor during the last Lok Sabha polls. (GT) TEMPLE, CHURCH BURGLED IN MANDREM: Thieves broke open the door of the Ganapati temple at Dewoolwada in Mandrem and decamped with cash and silver worth Rs.50,000. Subsequently the thieves gained entry into the New English High Secondary School in search of cash. The next target was Our Lady of Rosary Church at Ashvem, where the thieves looted cash from the offering box and it is understood that they also broke window panes and damaged doors of the Church. They also attempted to rob a grocery at Askawada but beat a hasty retreat when the owner woke up. (GT) ONE HELD: STONING OF RELIGIONS PLACES: The Maina Curtorim police arrested one Dev Dhas, 28, in connection with the recent incidents of stoning religious places and damaging a cross casket at St Jose Areal. Dass, hailing from Orissa, has been working at a fish net unit at St Jose Areal. (GT) TAX ON PETS IN PANAJI: Owners of canines in the Corporation of the City of Panaji limits will have to purchase a badge and pay taxes for their pets. For sterilized dogs the life tax will be Rs.100 while for the non-sterilised one, the amount would be Rs.1000. The owners would have to purchase a badge costing Rs.10. Pet dogs without licences would be impounded but released after paying fees for sterilization and life time tax. (GT) SCHEME FOR MILCH ANIMALS: A repackaged scheme for purchase of milch animals launched by the government on Independence Day was implemented from yesterday. The animal husbandry and veterinary services department has released 2,000 forms of 'Kamadenu' scheme, which envisages generation of jobs for the educated unemployed and increase in milk production in Goa. (GT) 'ENRICH CULTURAL TRADITIONS': Menino Peres, Joint Director of Information and Publicity, Government of Goa, has emphasized the need to inculcate among children love for recitation of abhang, kirtan, Christmas carols, ghumat vadaan and other varied folk folks.
