Dear Samir,

Karnataka is not the old kingdom of Mysore. Nov.01 marks the day the old
Mysore, part of Nizam's Hyderabad state, part of Bombay Presidency and, I
think, part of travancore kingdom were fused to form a new state. People of
Kolar and Chitradurga still speak telegu as their mother tongue and quite a
few people in Belgaum and Dharwad districts speak Marathi as proof of their
earlier connections. Tipu Sultan held sway over South Kanara[
Mangalore, udipi are] but the Wodeyars were mostly content with Mysore and
Bangalore districts of the present day Karnataka. The Kodavas of Coorg were
hardly a part of Mysore.

The Rajyotsav is close to Dushera and Diwali. It is a happy occasion.
